Development of our new planting area will commence next month. With great exitement we anticipate the planting of over two hundred native trees from thirteen species.

New nursery tables

Following the disasterous fire in September, we have restored our original nursery table by building a brand new nursery table with our own bamboo mirim and sustainable wood.

Fire at Serra da Beleza

There was an enormous fire at Serra da Beleza on Wednesday 11th of September 2024.

A criminal act of arson, the flames burnt for over a week, decimating over 1750 hectaceres of Atlantic Forest.

Fazenda da Beleza - our neighbour's pasture - was set alight tight at the top of Serra da Beleza. Tragically, the ancient Kilombo of São José da Serra, which is a large area given by the state to former slaves Afro descendents.

Ironically and puzzling, the first fire was set at Sitio Santo Adolfo largest bamboo bushes on the roadside. Luckily for us the manager of Fazenda Serra da Beleza Marcello spotted the flames from his house, and put it out for us. A hero indeed.

We were saved from total destruction by the wind change at the highest point of our neighbours Atlantic Forest - Cavalo Russo - which was inaccessible to the fire engines and the many helicopters hands on from the State of Rio Government and INEA to help put out the fire.

This criminal act created the worst environmental tragedy of the entire Estado of Rio de Janeiro to date.
